You can't do something remarkable without experiencing criticism

Why standing out means embracing criticism, and how avoiding it ensures mediocrity.

I shared an idea from Seth Godin a few weeks ago, about not simply expecting to be judged for your work, but being eager to be judged.

This week, I went back over my highlights from Purple Cow, and found a section that rhymed with that:

"If you're remarkable, it's likely that some people won't like you. That's part of the definition of remarkable. Nobody gets unanimous praise- ever. ​ The best the timid can hope for is to go unnoticed. Criticism comes to those who stand out," ​

"We often respond to our aversion to criticism by hiding, avoiding the negative feedback, and thus (ironically) guaranteeing that we won't succeed," ​
